Walt Disney World has canceled Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party for 2020. The annual after hours party is an extra ticket event that runs a couple nights per week beginning in late August thru early November. It features trick-or-treating, Mickey’s Boo-To-You Halloween Parade, special character meet-and-greets, the Hocus Pocus Villains Spelltacular, Halloween themed fireworks and more. “While assessing another fall special event, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, we determined that many of its hallmarks – stage shows, parades and fireworks – are unable to take place in this new, unprecedented environment,” the Disney Parks Blog announced. Disney has issued refunds to guests that purchased tickets prior to the cancellation.
This makes sense since most of the attractions and offerings for MNSSHP involve large crowds gathering in different sections of the park. But that doesn’t mean we have to like it! We are majorly bummed about this one, as MNSSHP is one of our favorite special events at WDW. Hopefully Disney has plans to introduce Halloween in clever and unique ways throughout the parks, while still maintaining social distancing and safe health practices. This could be done similar to how character presence has been established thus far, with the addition of character cavalcades and social distanced meet-and-greets. How great would it be to see the Sanderson Sisters interacting with guests from the Castle stage or balcony? Or characters dressed in their Halloween costumes making their way down the parade route in special cars or floats? We will definitely be on the look out for these opportunities to celebrate the spooky season.
For now, we will have to settle for watching Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party from past years on YouTube. Magic Kingdom will still be decorated in all of it’s Halloween and Fall glory. There will still be lots of great Halloween merchandise and seasonal treats to drown our sorrows in. And as always, it’s never too soon to start planning next years Fall vacation!
