Earlier this year, Disney announced it would be giving Cinderella Castle a royal makeover for the 70th Anniversary of the animated film and in preparation for the 50th Anniversary of Magic Kingdom Park in October 2021. “Walt Disney Imagineering helped select the new royal color scheme to give Cinderella Castle its glistening new look,” per Disney Parks Blog. “Special elements, such as a sapphire dusting on the on the blue rooftops and gold trim, were added to make the iconic spires sparkle in the sun.”
Not everyone is enamored with the new look. As Cast Members and Annual Passholders returned to Magic Kingdom for the first time since March, many took to social media to voice their disapproval of the new color scheme. They stated that Cinderella Castle now looked more like Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland and Disneyland Paris. Others think the renovation is magical and enjoy the way the castle changes at different times of the day.
Honestly, we always thought the castle looked a little drab and not as elegant or regal as castles in the other parks. On a cloudy day, it seemed to blend in to the sky and look faded. The new colors and details are more representative of such an icon. With her 50th Birthday approaching, this beautiful castle should stand out with vibrant, royal style. While we had hoped the pink would be more of a soft rose gold, we can’t help but think the Fairy Godmother would approve.
